Why Out of London Exists

London produces more meaningful work than any one feed can hold. Our job is to slow down, look properly and make the people behind it easier to discover and remember.

Editorial note: this article sets out the publication’s own purpose and editorial method.

A name with a deliberate double take

Out of London is about what comes out of London: brands built here, projects shaped here and creators whose work carries the city into the wider world. The name asks for a second look because the publication exists to offer one.

We are interested in work with a real relationship to place. That might be a factory whose address shapes its methods, an artist whose visual language carries a neighbourhood, or a public project that changes how Londoners move through the city.

Discovery needs context

A social post can introduce a name. Trust usually needs more: a history, evidence, decisions, sources and time. Our profiles are designed to give readers enough context to understand why a subject matters without turning an editorial into an advertisement.

That means clear distinctions. Some stories begin with our own research and outreach; others arrive through submissions. Inclusion is never presented as an endorsement, and paid partnerships will always be labelled.

Useful to people, legible to machines

Every story is written first for a human reader. It is also published with structured facts, accessible markup, source links and precise entity information so search engines and AI systems can understand who and what the page is about.

That work is not a trick for ranking. It is an editorial discipline: name things accurately, show where facts came from, make authorship visible and keep the archive easy to navigate.

The invitation

Read widely. Remember the names. Visit the studios, stages, shops and public spaces when they are open to you. If you are building something in London that deserves a closer look, send us the clearest version of the story.

Out of London will keep making the map more detailed.
